The Great Buck Howard

The Great Buck Howard(2008) PG

Colin Hanks stars in this offbeat comedy as a law student who quits school against his father's wishes to become the apprentice of cantankerous illusionist the Great Buck Howard (John Malkovich). Looking to regain the magic of his once-successful career, Howard takes his show on the road, where he and his new assistant endure a series of hilarious misadventures. Hanks's real-life dad, two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, co-stars.

Showbiz Comedies, Indie Comedies
This movie is:
Feel-good, Sentimental, Quirky

Totally. And Emily Blunt is totally hot. Particularly when she drops flat on her back on the bed in an exasperated way which is pretty credible, but also extra sexy.

The writing is perfect. There's a great blog interview with the writer-director [?!],
Sean McGinly, for Creative Screenwriting.

Added "Brothers" and "2 Days", other McGinly films, to Netflix queue.

Korean action combat MMOs

• All Korean MMOs
• All pretty high quality/cool art
• All Action Combat (some very cool looking for an MMO)

Tera Online:

Mabinogi Heroes:

Continent of the Ninth:

Dragon Nest:

Blade and Soul:

These may be in many cases more instanced-based worlds where you play with small groups to keep latency high enough for this kind of combat. But nonetheless, very impressive stuff.

Anvil: The Story of Anvil

Anvil: The Story of Anvil: Anvil: The Story of Anvil(2008) NR

Formed by two 14-year-olds in the 1970s, Canadian heavy metal band Anvil influenced the great acts that followed, such as Anthrax and Metallica. This documentary joins Anvil's now middle-aged founders as they recover from a disastrous tour of Europe. Hoping to end their youthful dreams and careers on a high note, Robb Reiner, Steve "Lips" Kudlow and the band set out to record their 13th album, "This Is Thirteen."

Favorite image: Robb Reiner paints. He has painted an architectural study of a titanic Anvil sculpture in a plaza with tiny abstract human figures. A god.

Yes, it is music. Yes, it is communication with an audience. But basically, it's about wanting to be adored. Wanting to live forever.

Defiance & Human Warrior for Dragon Age

Dragon Age - Human Warrior Origin Story

Human warrior origin story is a winner. Strong premise, abundant strong characters and conflicts, lots of ugly foreshadowing, nicely presented... and lots of fun action. I also played around with a snarky dialog tone, and the NPC responses didn't disappoint.

George R R Martin and Game of Thrones references are noticeable here... called to my attention by Zak, Emil, and others at Big Huge.

Daniel Craig stars as Tuvia Bielski, one of four Jewish brothers who escape from Poland into the forests of Belarus during World War II to lead a band of resistance fighters and create a safe haven for Jewish refugees. The real-life sanctuary established by the Bielski brothers saved more than 1,000 Jews from persecution and death. Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell and George MacKay also star in this moving historical drama based on actual events.

good speech - Welcome to the Camp – “Friends! This is the happiest day of my life…”
from subtitles.

This is an epic hero true story of saving people. Jews.
